Department of Economics Clinches Overall Title at 182nd  Annual Sports Meet. The 182nd Annual Sports Meet of St. Joseph’s College was held with great enthusiasm and grandeur on campus. The event was presided over by Rev. Dr. Pavulraj Michael, Rector of the Institution, while the welcome address was delivered by Rev. Dr. S. Mariadoss, Principal. The occasion was further graced by the presence of Rev. Dr. M. Arockiasamy Xavier, Secretary, and Dr. D. Kumar, Deputy Principal. The Chief Guest for the day was Mr. R. Yesudoss Kennedy, an Illustrious Alumnus and Additional Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of Tamil Nadu. He distributed prizes to the winners and delivered an inspiring address. The Guest of Honour was Mr. J. David Daniel, a distinguished alumnus and the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, Thanjavur. Overall Championship title for Shift I was won by the Department of Economics with a total of 93 points. The Individual Championship for Shift I was awarded to Jeffrin, a first-year postgraduate student from the Department of Commerce.

For Shift II, the Department of English secured the Overall Championship, while Ajay, a first-year undergraduate student from the English Department, won the Individual Championship for boys. The Department of Tamil won the Overall Championship for girl students, with Akalya, a third-year undergraduate student from the Department of Tamil, earning the Individual Championship title for girls.
In the parade competition featuring 26 contingents, the best marching contingents in Shift I were from the Departments of Commerce, Biochemistry, and Biotechnology. In Shift II, the B.Voc SD and SA Department bagged the best contingent award, while B. Com Honours and team shared the second place.
Certificates and trophies were distributed to the winners by the dignitaries and Reverend Fathers, who also offered their appreciation and encouragement to all participants.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rev. Fr. Rajasekaran, Sports Coordinator and Director of the Sports Hostel. The programme drew to a formal close with the National Anthem. The grand success of the event was a result of the meticulous planning and dedicated efforts of Rev. Fr. Rajasekaran, Director of Physical Education, along with Dr. A. Prem Edwin, Assistant Director, Dr. Renilton Breeze, Mr. S. Sriram, Head of the Department, Dr. Ramesh and all the members of sports committee.
