The Department of Commerce (Shift II), St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirapalli, organised a two-day Student Development Programme (SDP) on “DNA Employability Skills – Build the Skills Employers Seek” on 24 and 25 August 2026 for final-year Commerce students. The programme was organised with the objective of equipping students with essential employability competencies and preparing them to meet the evolving expectations of the corporate and professional world. The inaugural programme was held on 24 August 2026. Dr. D.Kumar, Deputy Principal delivered the Presidential Address, while Dr. J. Vasantha Arockia Selvi, Dean, School of Commerce, and Dr. G. John, Head, Department of Commerce, felicitated the programme. The students were provided with valuable insights through a series of expert sessions covering various dimensions of career readiness and employability.

Dr. M. Mahendren, Director, Training and Placement, St. Joseph’s College, spoke on “Changing Landscape of Jobs for Commerce Graduates” and highlighted emerging employment opportunities and industry expectations. MS. Praveen R., Trainer, Corporate Communication and Technical Writer, Authering Minds, Trichy, conducted a session on “The Art of an Effective Resume,” focusing on professional resume preparation and presentation. Dr. K. Karthickayan, Assistant Professor of English, National College, provided guidance on “Mastering the Art of Group Discussion,” emphasising effective participation, teamwork, confidence, and logical expression. Dr. S. Maha, Assistant Professor of English, National College, shared valuable inputs on “Mastering the Power of Communication,” highlighting the significance of effective communication in professional life. Dr. J. Arockia Jaykumar, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, St. Joseph’s College, conducted a session titled “Aptitude Edge: Think Smart, Get Hired,” focusing on analytical thinking, logical reasoning, problem-solving, and aptitude skills required for recruitment. Dr. A. John Peter, International Cell, St. Joseph’s College, delivered a session on “The Professional Competency Framework: From Academia to Employment,” emphasising the importance of transforming academic knowledge into professional competencies.

The valedictory programme was held on 25 August 2026 at 5.00 p.m. Rev. Dr. S. Arul Oli, S.J., Vice-Principal, delivered the Valedictory Address and encouraged students to continuously develop their professional competencies and career readiness. Ms. C. F. Octovia Antony Sessamal, Vice-Principal (Shift II), and Dr. B. Augustine Arockiaraj, Coordinator of Commerce, St. Joseph’s College, delivered the felicitation addresses and appreciated the active participation of the students and the collective efforts of the department.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Dr. S. Jerome, Organising Secretary, and Prof. C. Soundarya, Department Placement In-charge, whose coordinated efforts contributed significantly to its successful conduct. All the final-year Commerce students actively participated in the two-day programme and benefited from the expert sessions. The faculty members of the Department of Commerce extended their full cooperation and actively involved themselves in the various activities associated with the programme. The SDP served as a valuable platform for enhancing students’ career awareness, communication skills, aptitude, professional competency, and overall employability, thereby strengthening their preparedness for higher studies, placements, and future professional opportunities.
