The District Social Welfare Department, Tiruchirappalli in collaboration with the Centre for Ethics & Human Values (CEHV), Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, Tiruchirappalli, Organized a Slogan Writing Competition held on 23.09.2026 at Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College. The programme was organized as part of the State Action Plan for Senior Citizens (SAPSrC). The initiative aimed to promote intergenerational bonding, respect, empathy and understanding towards senior citizens among the younger generation.
Dr. S. Usha, Associate Professor of Sanskrit and Coordinator, CEHV, delivered the Welcome Address. Dr. M. V. Alli, Principal, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College, delivered the Inaugural Address. Mrs. Revathi, Senior Counsellor, District Social Welfare Department, Tiruchirappalli, delivered the Special Address and distributed the prizes.The competition was conducted under the theme “Caring Today for a Kinder Tomorrow”, with the focus on building bridges between generations and promoting shared values. The suggested themes included respect for elders, dignity and rights of senior citizens, healthy ageing, safety and security, the value of their experience and wisdom, intergenerational relationships, and senior citizen welfare.
24 students from various departments of Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College participated in the competition with enthusiasm and creativity. They expressed their thoughts and concerns about the well-being of senior citizens through meaningful and thought-provoking slogans. The competition provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the importance of respecting and caring for the elderly and strengthening relationships between generations.
U.Sivaswetha (I BCA) bagged the first prize, J.Sri Padmavathi (III B.Com Applied ), bagged the second prize,S.J.Anusha (III B.Sc.Botany) bagged the third prize . All the students were given certificates of participation.
As part of the programme, the Chief Guest, Mrs. Revathi, Senior Counsellor, District Social Welfare Department, Tiruchirappalli, also contributed plant saplings as a gesture of remembrance and respect. The saplings were planted in memory of the Founder Padmabhushan Sri.N.Ramaswami Ayyar and Smt. Seethalakshmi Alamelu Ammal. This thoughtful initiative symbolized the values of remembrance, gratitude, growth and continuity. The planting of the sapling served as a lasting tribute to their contributions and reflected the institution’s commitment to nurturing both human values and nature.
