Inauguration of Readers Club!
The Readers Club was inaugurated on 24th July 2025 at 12:40 p.m in the Department of Commerce – A ceremony filled with enthusiasm and purpose. Mr. S. Ajay compered the event, setting a warm tone. After a solemn invocation, Mr. Ramana Krishnan, Club Secretary, welcomed the gathering, followed by the dignitaries’ felicitation.
Dr. John, Head of the Department of Commerce, highlighted the club’s initiatives, including newspaper circulation, vocabulary building, general knowledge sharing, and weekly quizzes. He urged students to actively participate to reap long-term intellectual benefits. The keynote address by Dr. Francis captivated the audience. He remarked that while material possessions fade, knowledge endures. Urging students to devote one-third of their lives to learning, he stressed the importance of reading with intention, keeping two books at hand—one for reading and another for reflections—and practising vocabulary building with the Oxford Dictionary. He recommended Animal Farm by George Orwell as a valuable resource for improving English skills and discussed different reading techniques like skimming, scanning, intensive, and extensive reading. Quoting “Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders,” Dr. Francis encouraged students to choose their reading material wisely and to read for both enjoyment and growth. The event concluded at 1:25 p.m. with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Aswin Rerald, marking the beginning of a new era of literary engagement on campus.
