International Conference at HolyCross College Explores AI and Sustainable Economic Development, Tiruchirappalli, August 22, 2025
HolyCross College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli, in collaboration with the Bodhi International Journal of Research in Humanities, Arts and Science, successfully hosted a hybrid international conference on “Sustainable Economic Development in the Age of AI: Challenges and Opportunities” on Friday. The event brought together distinguished academicians, researchers, policymakers, and students from across India and abroad, fostering rich discussions on the evolving intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and sustainable economic growth.

The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Dr. P. Maria Sophiya, Assistant Professor (SG) and Head, PG and Research Department of Economics, Holy Cross College. Rev. Dr. Sr. Isabella Rajakumari, Principal of the College, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the importance of leveraging AI responsibly for inclusive and sustainable development.
Dr. S. Theenathayalan, Member of the Syndicate, Madurai Kamaraj University, and Associate Professor & Head, PG and Research Department of Economics, The Madura College, Madurai, delivered the keynote address, highlighting how AI-driven solutions can enhance productivity and bridge socio-economic divides. He also stressed the need for ethical AI frameworks and capacity building to ensure that advancements in technology translate into equitable growth and sustainable opportunities for all.
The conference featured plenary sessions, paper presentations, and expert discussions, offering interdisciplinary perspectives on AI applications in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and public governance. Dr. S.S. Jeyaraj, Faculty of Accounting and Finance, Guangxi Minzu University, China, and Dr. P. Satheesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, G.T.N. Arts College, Dindigul, chaired technical sessions that showcased innovative research papers addressing the role of AI in sustainable development and policy planning.
The event provided a platform for over 250 participants, with presentations spanning topics from AI in inclusive growth models to data ethics, smart cities, and green transitions. The hybrid format ensured global participation, enabling fruitful virtual collaborations alongside on-campus sessions.

At the valedictory session, Dr. J. Suresh Kumar, Associate Professor, St. Joseph University, Nagaland, delivered the valedictory address, appreciating the quality of discussions and urging scholars to continue research that integrates technology and sustainability. The conference concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. A. Fouzia Kousar, Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department of Economics, Holy Cross College.
